there's no time to be bored

At a recent meeting I was asked to share a memory from summer. My mind went blank, I didn't even know where to start, but couldn't think of anything specific that stood out above other things. Now I realize, I blanked because we did SO much this summer, I can hardly believe it all fit, and I can hardly begin to pick my favorites, so here are some highlights of things that took place this summer:

We have two summer birthdays in the family - that meant two birthday celebrations - one at Sea World, one at San Diego Safari Park - both also with small get togethers, like a party at home, and a bicycle trip to our favorite frozen yogurt place.

Sea World was beautiful and what I loved about this trip was NO STROLLER and everyone's big enough to do ride Atlantis, and even though it was hot, the kids had great attitudes.
Seeing my college roommate and her family for a beach day.
Party of 14 at our palacial vacation pad in Rancho Mirage.
Safari Park with cousins and grandparents!
We saw two couples get married this summer!
We stumbled upon a U-PICK orchard/farm and LOVED it. Pleasant surprise on our way up north.
Hung out at Grandma's in the mountains with cousins.
lit up the sky on the fourth of July.
I visited a childhood friend recovering from a stroke, and this was one of my favorite moments - making her mommy a pizza.
Held this guy a few times....baby DJ.
 Lit some stuff on fire.
Watched my sick girl on vacation try to suck it up and stop crying about not being able to go to the waterpark across the street from our hotel since she had a fever and chills and was vomiting. Poor kid. We made it up to her, we went to a waterpark just days ago.
Witnessed this kid go from FLOATIES to NO-FLOATIES NEEDED this summer! Watching your kid learn to swim is so much fun.
Hung out with this entire family and love them so much.
Got to enjoy a day at Disneyland with these kids, some of whom had never been!
 Watched kiddos slip and slide.
 Hiked with friends!
Watched from AFAR as my oldest and her grandpa got to feed giraffes on a safari.
Did a lot of hangin' out with my little guy.
Lost weight, but baked lots of things I shouldn't have, like this shortbread, bread, cookies, cookies, and cookies.
Went to this community park for the first time for a kid friend party - and LOVED it!
Had fun with cousins at this other pool, and watched a child nearly drown (not related) which was a good jolt to keep a better eye on everyone at the pool for the rest of the summer.
 raised hawkmoths.
had hawkmoth races.
And so much more! Geocached, kids rode a horse, kids learned to boogie board at a waterpark, went on some scary water park slides, rode bikes a lot, exercised, went on lots of walks, had movie nights and movie mornings, made a lot of art and planted lots of stuff. I don't know how we fit it all in, but we did.
Now it's back to routines and alarm clocks and strict bedtimes, bathtimes and brushing times.
Oh, I loved summer.
